I have been working on this new cake for display and for hire as the previous one was looking a bit tired.

I rather liked this simple but elegant and effective cake that I made for a wedding at Crondon Park in Essex. The bride and groom on top were sourced by the bride and had a rustic, whittled, look.

I have a lovely lady client who is particularly fond of this particular cake, so taken with it is she, that she has ordered the same cake on 3 separate occasions:

It is a fun cake to make, so I don't mind at all.

On Sunday, 20th February from 10 to 4 I will be at Crondon Park showing my cakes and offering tastings, if anyone would like to come for an informal meeting. The venue will be dressed as for a wedding so you can see what it looks like and their other recommended suppliers will also be there for you to get ideas of designs and prices.

I will also have one of my chocolate helterskelter cakes on display at Hylands House at the same time if anyone is thinking of going to look round there, but, of course, I won't be there in person.

This black and white sugar version of the helterskelter cake had the addition of some black feathers on the top. It went to Friern Manor last month.

I made a birthday cake this week for a man who enjoys shooting. I painted, in edible colouring, a beautiful pheasant with all the detail on the feathers. I really enjoyed the research, trials on paper and then actually painting it on the cake. I was thrilled with it. I left the rest of the cake very plain, with just a double row of colour coordinated ribbon round the sides, so as not to distract from the main feature.

Andrea and Daniel were very pleased with their wedding cake. They sent me a picture of them cutting it and a lovely thank you card:

"Dear Melanie

We are writing to thank you for making us an amazing wedding cake. Our family and friends commented on how tasty it was and the overall look of the cake fitted perfectly with our theme. My dad rescued 3 pieces of the cake for us to eat with a glass of champagne the day afer the wedding!

with best wishes Andrea and Daniel"

This is the 2nd girly birthday cake I made this week. It is 2-tiers with fuchsia pink ribbon and a stencilled design on the sides based on flock type wallpaper. On the top are pink sugar balloons and butterflies dipped in edible silver glitter shimmering on pink wires. I love this cake.

I have had a lovely time this week making 3 girly birthday cakes.

Here is the first one - bright pink butterflies with silver glitter and pink edible hearts. Happy Birthday Claire!
