This bride had a theme of Cadbury's purple, butterflies and diamantes and she wanted mini cakes. The top tier had a variety of purple butterflies on wires, with a diamante on each, purple satin ribbon with a diamante slider on, and the minis has purple sugar ribbons to make them look like parcels and a large purple butterfly on top with a diamante on each wing.

It was for a wedding last Saturday, the reception being held at North Weald Golf Club.

This is a white chocolate helterskelter cake that I made in July for a wedding at Gosfield Hall. It has chocolate roses the colour of latte. I quite like this colour scheme.

Royal Icing is a skill that I acquired when I learned to decorate cakes, and perfected when I did my City and Guilds in Sugarcraft. There is not a lot of demand for it now, but likewise there are not many cake decorators that can royal ice. I like to be asked to do royal icing 'to keep my hand in'.

This cake was very different, being offset squares, with a row of piped 'buttons' down the edge of each side, which was inspired by the buttons down the back of the bride's dress. The lilac sugar roses and petals were all it needed for decoaration. This cake was for a wedding at Hedingham Castle this summer.

I was commissioned to make this cake by the husband of a girl who likes to shop. He specified exactly what bags he wanted made of sugar and brought me examples of them. I don't know if Lisa was pleased or if she would have preferred to suggest that she shops somewhere a little more upmarket...

I made this cake for a wedding in August at Pontlands Park. It is in ivory with a cascade of ivory roses, edged with gold glitter.

This couple had a vivid wedding colour scheme at Regiment Way in Chelmsford, complemented by this love heart cake:

I had a lovely letter from the bride's mum:

"Dear Melanie

Thank you for the superb cake you made and decorated for Nicola and Terry. Not only did it look splendid but it tasted wonderful and everyone commented on it. Thank you once again, we would certainly recommend you in the future."

I thought this was a beautiful and classic cake with a cascade of peach and ivory handmade sugar roses, and just a few peach glittery butterflies visiting the flowers. It was for a wedding at Hedingham Castle last Thursday.

I will be at Crondon Park tomorrow evening to show my cakes and give consultations and tasters to anyone who comes along. Today I will be working hard on making a new display cake similar to the one below:

A friend of my aunt wanted to celebrate her daughter's 60th birthday with a cake with a photo of her daugher at 18 months. I've never done an edible image cake before and wasn't sure of the process. I had a friend, Sam, scan the photo for me, and then I e-mailed it to 'Cakes Unlimited' to get an edible image. Gaynor, at Cakes Unlimited, was amazed to see that the little girl was dressed and posed exactly as she had been in a photo she had of herself at the same age. She sent me back an edible image of the photo, which I framed with some pink sugar flowers, and put a pink sugar ribbon and bow round the sides of the cake.

I hope Christine is as thrilled with her cake as her mum, Lily, hopes.

This toy box/treasure chest was for Harrison's baptism last Sunday.

It is a 10" square sponge cake, cut and carved to shape and covered in chocolate paste with a wood pattern, and sugarpaste banding. The details and toys were very time consuming to make. I had a lovely letter from the family praising the cake.

Here is a pure white version of my helterskelter cake. For it to be truly white it has to be made of sugar rather than chocolate and therefore has a much more delicate look.

This was a 4-tier sponge wedding cake, with pale green icing and white dots. With some fresh white flowers on top it is very elegant. It was for a wedding in June at Boreham House in Essex.

Here is one of the many cakes I made over the summer - a 4-tier square cake with tiers alterating with rosettes and embroidered flower shapes and a bit of bling in the form of sugar dragees.

This cake was a large (12" square) cake for a Hollywood themed birthday party. It is one of the terazzo and brass star paving stones from Hollywood Boulevard but with the birthday girl's name on instead of Arnold Schwarzenegger's.
