This bride had two daughters, Lily and Daisy, and wanted them included in her wedding scheme, so she had a 3-tier sponge wedding cake, with handmade sugar daisies all the way round on the ledges and 3 handmade sugar lilies on the top. The cake was displayed on a pedestal stand with cupcakes all the way round the base. The reception was held at Burstead Golf Club, in Essex.

When I went on the cupcake workshop last week, Ann Pickard, the course tutor, had some beautiful edible lustre spray for sale. I had to buy some, and, together with some white hologram glitter created this white sugar version of my helterskelter cake. The photograph doesn't do it justice, but the sun glinting off it in the shop window shows it off to perfection.

On Wednesday I had a lovely day at a workshop making little modelled animals to go on cupcakes. The course was led by Ann Pickard, a well known sugar model maker. I had a dozen at the end and I have displayed them on a cupcake stand in my window. I think my favourite is the sheep, but they are all cute in their own way.

This was a fantastic commission for an 18th birthday cake, that gave me a chance to show off my skills. The cake itself was 2-tier, a 10" sponge and a 6" chocolate cake with a 10" sugar carousel on top, with 8 sugar horses, white with gold detailing, lots of gold stars and the initials of the birthday girl. It took a long time, but was a labour of love.

Here is a very classic cake with handmade sugar roses, in the currently very popular dark purple, with some gold berries and foliage, with draped fabric made of sugar sweeping from tier to tier, caught up by a spray of flowers.

These are the miniature cakes I made to match the large wedding cake for a wedding at The Fennes that I featured the entry before last. They were boxed in clear plastic boxes with blue flock bases.

I have had a couple of unusual commissions this week.

The first was a large cake for a 30th birthday. Sarah likes pink and sparkle and girly things, and, as her name means princess, she asked for a crown birthday cake.

This was a lovely, classic, but rather complex, cake I made for a leap day wedding. It is 5-tiers, with ivory/cream icing, a sugar drape from tier to tier, caught up at intervals with a spray of purple sugar roses, gold berries and rose leaves. Around the sides, in English and Italian, were "Together forever, with love and laughter, Michelle and Giuseppe, have found their happy ever after."

I also made 10 matching mini cakes as favours for guests.

This cake was for a wedding at The Fennes, in Bocking, Essex.

Most of the wedding cakes I am making at the moment are round cakes, but this is a classic square one.

It is vanilla sponge with seedless raspberry jam and vanilla buttercream, with white icing and a sheaf of 3 white sugar calla lilies and bear grass on each tier. Displayed on a 3-tier stand. This was for a wedding at Crondon Park in Stock, Essex.
