20120831-Artist Palette birthday cake.JPG

This was a very neat birthday cake. With an artist in mind I made a wooden palette, with circles of coloured paint, a couple of brushes, and a couple of tubes of paint. For the sides I continued the theme of coloured circles, giving a modern, colourful cake, well suited to a celebration.

20120827-Suitcase Wedding Cake.JPG

This bride and groom had researched their wedding cake very thoroughly before they even approached me to make it. They came armed with several pictures of suitcase stack cakes and wanted the base tier to be like one of the pictures but with various differences, and with corners, and the top tier to be a semi-circular dressing case. They had also done a colour scheme so I knew what colour every element of every tier should be. It was a very enjoyable challenge.

This is a detail of the handmade sugar bride and groom on top of the cake. Although the groom is seated I do prefer to make the brides standing so they can show off the details of their dresses.

20120826-Pink Rose Cascade Cake.JPG

This 5-tier cake in vanilla sponge has a cascade of pink sugar roses falling from the top tier right down to the bottom. The pink roses are in several shades and each has a diamante in the centre. At the foot of the cascade stand a sugar bride and groom, accurately dressed, down to hair style and bouquet.

It was for a wedding at Stock Brook Manor a couple of weeks ago.

The bride sent me this note:

"Hi Melanie

Just want to say a massive thank you for our cake. It was simply amazing!

Thanks again

Lisa & Brad"

I thought this was a gorgeous cake. The orchids are all handmade from sugar and took about an hour each. It is a 5-tier square cake with 3 rows of dots piped on the sides of each tier. It was made for a wedding at Stock Brook Manor at the end of July.
