20130131-18th Birthday 2-tier chocolate cake.JPG

This scrummy 2-tier birthday cake has 3 layers of moist chocolate sponge per tier, drizzled with cointreau and orange juice, layered with a combination of milk chocolate ganache and orange curd, and is then covered in white chocoate paste and is decorated with piped chocolate scrolls and a milk chocolate bow with long tails trailing right to the foot of the cake.

The name of the birthday girl is piped on the board and the age is on the bow tails. Perfect for a chocoholic.

20130130-small hygrangea wedding cake.JPG

This was a very small wedding cake, 8", 6" and 4" tiers as the couple wanted a 3-tier cake but had very few guests. It was largely carrot cake as this was their favourite. It was displayed on a pedestal stand to give it height, so it looked as impressive as a bigger cake.

The white sugar hydrangea bracts covered the top tier of the cake and became more scattered as they fell down the cake.

It was for a wedding in Great Baddow, near Chelmsford, in Essex last Autumn.

20130129-jewellery box birthday cake.JPG

This was an 18th birthday cake I made last week. It was a lovely commission and I thoroughly enjoyed making it. I was very pleased with the finish, it was so neat. Everything was edible except the diamante on the diamond solitaire ring. It was a large cake, 12" x 8", probably larger than your average jewellery box and would feed nearly 100 guests with a 1" finger of sponge cake.

20130128-Wedding Cake with Drape and Ivory Roses.JPG

This version of the cake with roses and a drape of 'sugar fabric' has ivory icing and ivory roses and a brighter green leaf than usual. The client also wanted me to omit the berries. This was for a wedding at Channels Golf Club in Essex.

20130126-Golf Cake.JPG

I made this cake last week for Jack who was very proud of the fact that he had scored 4 hole in ones during his golfing career. So I piped 'hole in one' on each of the four sides of the cake, on the board, making 4 in total. He was given a lovely party at Stock Village Hall, which was decorated beautifully. Because of the snow it was quite a worry if the guests would arrive, but they did and everything went off well.

His wife sent me this note abouit the cake:

"It was delicious and many compliments were voiced on how lovely it tasted and looked. Thank you."

20130125-Book Christening Cake with doves.JPG

This is a book shaped Christening Cake. It is made in a specially shaped tin and it is 13" x 9" and will make over 50 portions of cake 1" x 2" x depth of cake. The book mark, lettering and other features can be pink or blue or any other colour you may like. It is also suitable for confirmations, or as a celebration cake for someone who likes reading (without the doves).

James Alasdair's mother sent me this lovely message:

Dear Melanie

Just a note of thanks for the beautiful cake you made for my son, James', Christening. It was so delicious that it disappeared very quickly! I got so many compliments and passed your name to many people. :-)

Thanks again!

20130124-Wedding cake with red roses, drapes.JPG

This cake is very similar to the one below. It has red roses and a drape of sugar fabric coming down from the top, caught up on the ledge of each tier with a spray of sugar roses, leaves and gold berries. However, this one is 3-tier rather than 4 and has roses leaves rather than ivy, and no bride and groom. This cake was also for a wedding at Crondon Park around Christmas time.

20130123-Wedding cake with red roses, drapes ad bride and groom.JPG

This was a wedding cake for just after Christmas at Crondon Park Golf Club in Essex. So just after Christmas that I had to dash home from my in-laws on Boxing Day to get on with it. But the couple were so lovely, and appreciative, that I did not begrudge my curtailed Christmas celebrations.

It is a very popular design, but in honour of the season it had red roses, gold berries and ivy made in sugar. The little bride and groom, also hand made in sugar, are very sweet little replicas of the actual bride and groom.

20130122-Theatrical Birthday Cake.JPG

Here is an 18th Birthday Cake for a young man who is into Musical Theatre. The cake represented the stage and then the flyers for some of the actual productions he has been in are reproduced across the stage. Red sugar curtains and theatrical masks complete the scene.

This is the note I received about it:

" Hi Melanie,

Just wanted to drop you a note to say thank-you for the fantastic 'theatre' cake you made for my son's 18th birthday. He loved it as did everyone who came to the party. It also tasted just as good as it looked. "

20130116-heart choc box cake 3 colour cigarillos.JPG

This rather yummy wedding cake matched the theme of the wedding at Little Channels near Chelmsford in Essex perfectly. The theme was sweets and each table had a centre peice like a topiary tree made of different sweets, but none of them chocolate ones, so the wedding cake, which was also dessert, was ideal, and looked striking too.

20130102-Wedding Cake with purple roses.JPG

This 3-tier wedding cake has a cascade of handmade purple chocolate roses, in several shades of purple from lilac to almost black, running in a waterfall from the top to the base tier. It has small dots piped on the sides. Although the icing is white to match the colour scheme of the wedding inside it is chocolate orange cake, to match the tastes of the bride and groom!

This cake was for a wedding at the Tower of London.
