Here are two cakes with a similar design. The 4-tier cake has ivory icing and ivory appliqued sugar lace pieces, randomly placed with large dots piped in the spaces between them. There is a row of piped beads at the base of each tier. The cake had sugar calla lilies on the top. This was displayed on my large round silver base stand. This was for a wedding at Crondon Park, Stock, Essex, last week.

The 2-tier cake has the appliqued lace packed closer together, and needed nothing on the top. It was displayed on a pedestal stand for height. This was for a wedding at Friern Manor, near Dunton, in Essex in the summer.

20130224-Golden Wedding Cake.JPG

This was a Golden Wedding Anniversary (50 years) Cake I made last week in traditional fruit cake, with 3 specimen, handmade sugar roses, dusted in gold and tied with a champagne gold ribbon. There is a band of sugar 'ribbon' round the sides with little hearts cut out and then appliqued above the ribbon.

I hope they had a lovely big family party.

20130220-Purple Cupcakes with butterflies.jpg

This tower of cupcakes with purple sugarpaste tops and hand cut sugar butterflies was for a wedding at Prested Hall in Feering, Essex. There are 4 different styles of butterflies, the monarch type being the most fiddly to cut out. They are made of tylose paste and are left to dry at an angle so their wings are open but not flat. The top tier was white with purple butterflies with a touch of edible glitter.

These cupcakes are £4 each.

20130219-Wedding cake with diagonal band of blue roses.JPG

This is a cake I made in the summer with a 'rope' of handmade sugar roses in alternating light blue and dark blue. It was very effective. It also had piped beading joining the tiers and a narrow blue ribbon just above the piping on each tier.

Here is the same cake but I have added sugar versions of the paper origami cranes that the bride's mother made to put on the invitations. This made an intriguing and unusual wedding reception theme.

20130215-Black and White Wedding Cake with Butterflies.JPG

I have made this new display cake to show at Debenhams in Chelmsford tomorrow.

I wanted to 'show' a square cake as all my 'dummies' are round cakes at present. The cake has 4 tiers, iced in white with a black satin ribbon round the base of each tier and a square diamante slider on each ribbon alternating to the left and right. Butterflies are a very popular theme this year, so I have made black sugar butterflies with I have decorated with black glitter for some extra sparkle.

It would, of course, look lovely in other colour schemes.

This cake costs £375.

20130214-Diamond Wedding Anniversary Cake.JPG

I picked this cake to write about on Valentines Day as 60 years of marriage must be a pretty good testament to love.

The couple's daughter commissioned this cake. It is a diamond shape, quite large (approximately the equivalent of a 10" square) and about right for a moderate family party. Iced in white it has a band of royal iced cornelli work and a spray of handmade sugar flowers, including calla lillies, roses, hydrangea, lily of the valley, blossoms, ivy leaves, and some sparkly sugar hearts and crystal heart sprays.

20130211-Wedding Cake with tiny blossoms.JPG

This is a very popular style of cake at the moment. Three tiers of cake, each tier a different flavour covered in ivory icing. There is a latte satin ribbon round the base of each tier and evenly spaced sugar blossoms cover the sides. It looks very pretty with a posy of fresh flowers on top to match those of the reception.

It would, of course, look equally pretty with a pale pink or lemon theme for the ribbon. Another display idea is to place it on a pedestal stand with some matching cupcakes round the base. This particular cake was for a wedding at Crondon Park, in Stock, Essex, in the summer.

As it stands this cake would cost £300 for your wedding.

20130210-Wedding Cake with cascade of white roses and diamantes.JPG

This is my latest dummy wedding cake, made for wedding fairs and for my window. It is 4 tiers iced in white with a cascade of larger white roses, each with a diamante at the centre. It was the most popular cake at the Crondon Park Wedding Fair a couple of weeks ago, and has been on loan to them since then. I collected it yesterday and put it in my refurbished window today.

The rose cascade can be in any colour and the cost of the real cake for your wedding would be £400. I will take it to Debenhams to show next Saturday.

20130207-celtic knot wedding cake.JPG

This is the cake that the Chocolate Standing Stone Cake accompanied.

This cake is iced in ivory, on a 3-tier stand and has a celtic knot piped in white round the sides of each tier. The celtic knot was reproduced from the style of celtic knot on the wedding invitations. There are 3 sugar calla lilies in a sheaf with some bear grass on each tier, and the wedding colour scheme of teal is subtly introduced with a very narrow ribbon near the base of each tier, just above the piped beading at the very base of each tier.

20130206-grooms cake.JPG

Back in the summer I had a commission for a wedding cake, very elegant, 3-tiers with a celtic knot piped round the sides and sugar calla lilies. Although this was what the bride wanted and the groom agreed, he secretly wanted some chocolate cake and a bride and groom model. They must have talked about it to the parents because a few days later the mother-in-law contacted me and asked me to make a surprise grooms cake, that incorporated their hobby of walking, a bride and groom in walking gear and his passion for chocolate cake. She supplied me with pictures of the couple posed against a standing stone. So the standing stone became the cake.

What a lovely, and delicious, extra wedding present.

In December I made a baby 'reveal' cake, but made a blue and a pink cake as I did not know what gender the baby would be. As the baby turned out to be a girl I had an 8" round blue cake left over, which I froze and that is what my daughter got for her birthday. I iced the cake and then allowed her to decorate it. She has a favourite hat, which she wears at any time she is not in bed or at school classes. So she reproduced the hat on the top of the cake, virtually life size. The children at her party absolutely understood the reference. It was also fun when the cake was cut to see blue and white striped layers.

By the way, I did not give my daughter the unfortunate name of Milo, that is the name of the hat.

This stunning wedding cake is iced in white with a white ribbon round the base of each tier and piped beading over the ribbon. The cake is covered in a royal iced piped swirly pattern, which is hours of work. This was such a large wedding cake that I would not have been able to lift it assembled, so I had to take it with the tiers separate and stack it up at the venue, Gaynes Park, near Epping in Essex, and then pipe the beading round the base of each tier when in was in situ.

20130201-Scout bride and groom wedding cake.JPG

20130201-Close-up of scout bride and groom.JPG

I made his wedding cake for a couple who are scout masters and who met through scouting. The cake is a 3-tier square cake with a cascade of little blue blossoms/daisies down one corner and then a hand-modelled sugar bride and groom dressed in their scouting uniforms on top. It was for a wedding at Newland Hall in Essex this Autumn.
