These are a couple of Minions, rice krispie bars inside and sugarpaste outside, that I made as demonstration pieces for a workshop with 17 junior sugarcrafters yesterday. They all made terrific Minions too.

And this was the final cake I made last week. A four tier wedding cake in pure white with royal blue accents, edging the sugar roses and leaves. The sugar drape was pleated and the whole matched the circle of love cake 'topper' that the bride supplied. It was for a reception at Russells Restaurant in Great Baddow, Essex.

This was the fourth cake from last week, and definitely the most demanding. It was for a 60th birthday and the brief was it had to be the actual traction engine that the client owned. I was given lots of photographs and drawings. It was many hours of work but I was pleased with the result. All made of sugar, but the cornfield below was the cake.

The third of last week's cakes was a 50th birthday cake. The brief was that the lady liked orchids and her favourite colour was purple. So purple sugar orchids it was.

The second of last week's five cakes was this gorgeous wedding cake, designed by the groom, with ivory icing and white chocolate roses, and sugar hearts in various sizes and methods. With a mocha colour scheme the whole came together to create a beautiful cake. For a wedding at Crondon Park last Friday.

It has been a very busy week, with 5 cakes to make and decorate. This was the first, collected on Thursday. It is the first time I have been asked for a horseshoe shape, in spite of having been making cakes for over 20 years. The couple had a 3-tier horseshoe shaped wedding cake 50 years ago and their daughter wanted this shape to echo that fact. There is a spray of yellow and gold sugar flowers and some little hearts on the sides.

This sponge birthday cake in the shape of a dramatic hat, suitable for Ladies Day at Ascot, was bought by Paula's Mum as a surprise to celebrate her 50th birthday. It is difficult to see the scale but it was nearly life size so a really WOW cake.

This rustic wedding cake, coated in vanilla buttercream and decorated with fresh yellow germinis was for a wedding at Maidens Barn at High Easter last weekend. A slice of tree trunk was used as a cake stand.

This fresh, spring-like cake was for a wedding at Crondon Park on Bank Holiday Monday. Chocolate, lemon and vanilla flavoured tiers had a decoration of applique sugar lace, yellow ribbon and a posy on top, of sugar roses and hydrangea, edged with lemon. I saw the bride and groom when I went to collect the cake stand and they were very complimentary.
