Pretty Pink Cupcake Tower

www.ferriscakes.co.uk

This cup cake tower was for a wedding at The Reid Rooms in Margaret Roding. The bride liked all my cupcake styles and couldn't decide which to have so she opted for three different ones: buttercream swirls with dragees (sugar balls), buttercream swirls with handmade sugar roses, and sugarpaste topped with a handmade sugar rose and piped leaves.

The top was a shop bought fruit cake that I decorated to match the cup cakes. The bride provided this and the topper which was a groom with a ball and chain!

See below for a close up of the cup cakes.

Here was a huge chocolate cake for a celebration for a very lucky little girl. A 12" square cake with white chocolate curls round the sides, white chocolate fans and teddy bears on the top, and all finished with hand made pink sugar roses. 'Suzylou' was piped in pink icing on a white chocolate plaque.

Unusual White Wedding Cake

www.ferriscakes.co.uk

This very unusual and elegant white shimmery cake was made for a wedding at Stock Brook Manor at the end of July. It had white phalaenopsis orchids on the top, provided by the florist.

This is what the bride, Mandy, wrote to me:

"Hi Melanie

The cake was fantastic; it looked perfect and tasted delicious. Thank you so much for your hard work. A friend of mine is getting married in January; I have given her your contact details (Lucy).

I have attached a photo of the cake in case you wanted a copy for your file.

Thank you again.
My brother finally got married this summer (after 28 years of 'courting' his wife), so I made them my favourite cake. Here they are cutting the cake...

Another Fairytale Castle Wedding Cake

www.ferriscakes.co.uk

Two fairytale castle wedding cakes in 8 days. But they were both so different. This is from a specific fairytale, as suggested by the pumpkin carriage at the foot of the stairs. All I can say is if Cinderella had to run down all those stairs no wonder she lost her glass slipper.

This was for a wedding at Gaynes Park last weekend.

Ornate white chocolate wedding cakes

These cakes are my most popular wedding cake. They are called 'helterskelter' cakes because of the way the white chocolate wraps round the cake in a continuous spiral from the top to the bottom. They are, in fact, 4 tiers of chocolate cake stacked up and then wrapped round with the white chocolate. When this has firmed up I add the white chocolate fans and roses, which I have made in advance.

No two helterskelter cakes are the same as they 'evolve' as I build up the wraps and add the fans and roses. Here are the last three I made. You can see they differ and yet the effect is still, 'WOW, how did you do that?'

Chocolate Buttercream and Strawberries Wedding Cake

www.ferriscakes.co.uk

This is a large chocolate cake with layers of sponge drizzled with orange juice and cointreau, filled with chocolate buttercream and orange curd (which I can only find at Waitrose now), and coated with chocolate buttercream. I have piped all round the edges of the tiers and made loops and swags. Then I bought local strawberries, dipped them in plain chocolate and filled the ledges all round the cake. The top has the bride and groom dressed in their dive gear modelled in sugar.

The whole thing made a wonderful dessert for the wedding reception meal.

Pale Green Cake with Puffy Bows

www.ferriscakes.co.uk

Charlotte and Hugh had their reception at Pontlands Park last Saturday. I loved their cake, which was a delicate shade of green with white embroidery, and the big bows gave it a wow factor. The bride and groom on a motorbike made it more personal and quirky. (This was not made by me.)

This is what the bride's mother had to say:

"Dear Melanie,
Just wanted to thank you so much for the wonderful wedding cake. It looked amazing and tasted delicious. We had so many compliments and have passed your name on to several guests. It was really nice to see you again - I just wish I had more daughters to enjoy planning another wedding! (Although my husband may not agree!)
Best wishes,"
